The Week In Review: Design

Optical tool updates; Xilinx support from Mentor; deals; Synopsys beefs up silicon photonics tools.

Synopsys uncorked the latest version of its software for the design of optical communication systems and photonic integrated circuits at the signal propagation level, adding a new interface and expanding the software’s application design libraries.

Mentor Graphics said it would provide a variety of tools to support the new Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC devices from Xilinx, dual-core field-programmable gate arrays. The tools include Mentor Embedded Linux, the Nucleus real-time operating system, Mentor Embedded Hypervisor, and Mentor Embedded Multicore Framework products.

Andes Technology won a deal with ITE Tech, which will incorporate Andes’ N801 CPU core into the IT835X sensor hub chip, citing the core’s MIPS-per-mWatt performance.

Intrinsic-ID’s Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) technology, which allows implementation of security functions such as device authentication and anti-cloning, is now available for certain Imagination MIPS CPUs.
