Applied Materials

Artificial Intelligence is driving significant research and growth in emerging memory technologies. To accelerate the research, Applied Material’s Design Technology Organization is seeking an energetic candidate to architect and drive strategic emerging memory development programs  In this role, you will work with internal cross functional teams and external partners to identify most suitable memory technology for various application spaces (AI, NVM, Main Storage etc), architect reference design points (device to SoC to System) establish development plans, manage memory design development and drive to enable market adoption.

The ideal candidate will have:

In depth understanding of various established memories (DDR, Flash, SRAM, eDRAM, ROM, EEPROM etc) and emerging memories (Resistive, Magnetic, Correlated electric etc)

In depth understanding of pros and cons of each existing and emerging memory technologies (device physics, functional, manufacturability, adoption barrier, System/FW implications)

In depth understanding of analog and digital circuitry around the memory cell, circuitry required for integration into next step (macro followed by SoC) and system addressability/usage

Prior architecture and design experience with neuromorphic memory development, well versed in design tradeoffs for AI network mapping to crossbar array and analog circuitry

Prior exposure to system architectures involving Flash, storage, main memory

Good understanding of all types of neural networks, mapping to hardware (SoC, crossbar) and implications on TOPS/W, Accuracy, Area and Power

Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to clearly communicate ideas/challenges, drive convergence and buy-in from stakeholders

Genuine interest in learning and motivation to turn new learning into action that will impact business results in a meaningful manner

Ability to work in a matrixed and global organization

Prior technical leadership and/or management experience

Genuine interest to coach and mentor junior/mid-career level engineers
