Join a growing manufacturing business in Newport who are investing heavily in their future. This is an exciting opportunity in a newly created role within the Commodity team to allow the business to accelerate its outsourcing activities, expanding its supply chain, better support New Product Introduction (NPI) and create value through the application of Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA).

 

Responsibilities:

As part of the outsourcing and second-sourcing processes you will liaise with the commodity buyers, purchasing, NPI and engineering teams with a view to develop the electrical supply chain capability, drive down cost and improve the continuity of supply of electrical and electro-mechanical assemblies.
Working with production engineering and engineering teams on NPI and DFMA you will provide early insight on improvements targeted at reducing cost, lead-time and potential quality issues.
Review technical information that supports the manufacturing process, this would include drawings, wiring & test schedules, test equipment/processes, specification and manufactures data sheets to ensure they are fit for purpose.
Good communication skills to work with multiple internal departments and SPTS’s growing global supplier base. You will be expected to build good client relationships and be able to effectively communicate detailed technical information
Where required there will be a need to visit supplier sites to understand their capabilities and manufacturing constraints with a view to improving manufacturability and identifying potential manufacturing changes required.
Gain an understanding of our products and processes, research production techniques, methodologies and specifications to be able to offer technical support to both the supply chain and internal engineering teams.
Where SPTS needs additional capabilities you will research suppliers and be part of the supplier auditing process early in the development cycle, ensure SPTS selects suppliers that fit with our production systems and methodologies.
Support design activities to add insight early in the lifecycle and confidently steer design decisions based on capacity, capability and the potential for exclusivity within the products and supply chain.
Work with the supply chain on cost reduction and capacity gains year on year, supporting the development of parts and assemblies to make their production more effective
Creating, monitor and improving against a backdrop of KPI’s aligned to internal and external customer requirements
