Rambus is seeking to hire exceptional talent to join some of the brightest inventors and engineers in the world to develop products that have real life impact. Rambus is engaged in the development of next generation high speed, long reach SERDES IP cores (56/112+Gbps), providing a unique opportunity to be involved in these cutting edge designs.


This is a highly impactful position inside the IP Cores Division in Toronto or Sunnyvale. The key role is to design analog-to-digital converters (ADC) for 112G/56G SerDes PHY with an emphasis on high sampling rate and low power. The individual will perform feasibility on ADC architectures (e.g. flash, SAR, pipeline) to determine optimal architecture and design for ADC components such as interleavers, reference circuits, samplers, decimators, re-timers, and internal ADC clocking. You will participate in IP generation and technology evangelization and contribute towards new product initiatives leveraging this critical IP. You will also have the opportunity to innovate and develop high speed ADCs with world class area and power efficiency. You will drive projects, set the direction of ADC design at Rambus, and work closely with others in highly technical groups. This role is perfect for you if you are a self-motivated, detail-oriented team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills who has the ability to work with peers across groups and projects.

Develop micro-architecture and modeling for components in advanced 112G/56G serial links. Signaling scheme includes NRZ and PAM4.
Design components inside ADCs
Other design responsibilities may include clocking, receiver AFE, current/voltage-mode drivers, bias circuits, regulators, and serializers/deserializers
Layout guidance and supervision
Generate innovative solutions that can be brought to market and protected by patents
Demonstrate proof-of-concepts through prototyping in advanced 7/10-nm FinFET processes. Silicon debug and evaluation.
Participation in technology evangelization through customer presentation, conference and journal publications

MS or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering
5 to 10+ years of industry experience
Architecture and design experience in high-performance and low-power serial links
Design experience with low-voltage high-sample rate ADCs is a must. Design experience with PLL/DLL, ADC-based SerDes, phase interpolators, receiver AFE, driver, custom digital circuits, and general mixed-signal components is highly desirable.
Must be familiar with layout extraction, EMIR, matching techniques
Working knowledge of communication theory, signal integrity, noise analysis, BER link analysis, and equalization techniques is necessary
Requires experience with the following tools: Matlab & Simulink modeling tool, Cadence Virtuoso, Hspice/Spectre, Nanosim/XA, Verilog-A, and DRC & LVS verification. Shell scripting and programming experience are highly desirable.
Must be able to work with a diverse team of specialists and understand overall tradeoffs in creating complex, high performance systems
