Overview:

Each product family has been tailored to meet specific applications or market requirements, while delivering the technical leadership and cost-effective system performance customers have come to expect from Veeco. The Ultratech division has implemented and maintains an Environmental Management System.
Veeco’s UltraTech Business Unit is hiring a Staff Mechanical Engineer to develop precision mechanical designs for complex systems. The person in this role will have knowledge of fundamental optics principles and will have experience with finite element analysis.

Responsibilities:

Develop precision mechanical designs for complex systems in Ultratech’s laser annealing, photolithography, and inspection product lines
Provide high-level design leadership and problem solving
Quickly develop an understanding of existing products and markets, and translate new market and system requirements into design criteria
Analyze concepts and conceive designs to meet aggressive product cost and market timing needs
Execute Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and breadboard testing when needed to guide designs and retire risk
Create part drawings, assembly drawings, and models in SolidWorks to Ultratech standards
Build and test prototypes
Design and conduct tests to validate design compliance to requirements
Prepare and deliver design reviews
Create bills of materials, compose assembly and installation instructions, and execute engineering change orders to release designs to production
Collaborate with systems, electrical, optical, and software engineers to integrate subsystems into designs
Interface with suppliers or outside engineering groups when needed to complete projects
Contribute to multiple simultaneous projects of varying scope

Qualifications:

BS in Mechanical Engineering and at least 12 years of precision machine design experience or an MS and 8 years of relevant experience or a PhD and 5 years of relevant experience is required. Advanced degree preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Proficiency in SolidWorks (preferred) for modeling and creating detail and assembly
Familiarity with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing and PDM systems
Proficiency in FEA for stress and thermal analysis
Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas: dynamic motion systems and controls, optomechanical design, and/or heat management and thermal stabilization (knowledge of semiconductor capital equipment design conventions and standards desirable)
Clear communication of design concepts and results
Quick adaptability to Ultratech standards and practices
Effectively collaborate with engineers and technicians of varying levels of experience and knowledge
