Veeco’s Ultratech business unit is hiring a Technical Writer with strong listening and writing skills and experience working with complex capital equipment to summarize, in writing, electrical and mechanical assembly instructions.

Review Engineering redlines and update work instructions written in Adobe Framemaker and Microsoft Word
Understand and interpret complex Engineering work instructions, determining if the requested changes make sense and providing guidance for the most appropriate wording
Generate work instructions from scratch by being present during parts installation and testing
Interview Engineers and Technicians to determine the steps needed to install newly designed parts
Generate multi-document manuals in Adobe Framemaker
Work on Semiconductor equipment unsupervised to verify that work instructions are accurate
Generate graphics from solid models
Create sketches from scratch using drawing programs


Bachelor’s degree in a Technical Field (Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Physics, Kinetics) and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree without experience. Experience operating and servicing complex Semiconductor equipment is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Proficient using MS Word and PowerPoint
Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator or equivalent drawing program
Experience with Solidworks or Autocad
Capable of reading system-level drawings
Strong understanding of the written English language
Able to work on multiple projects at the same time
High level of attention to detail and accuracy
