Tokyo Electron supplies a range of semiconductor manufacturing equipment and flat-panel display production equipment.

The company was founded in 1963 by Tokuo Kubo and Toshio Kodaka as Tokyo Electron Laboratories Inc., and was primarily funded by the Tokyo Broadcasting System. It began life manufacturing diffusion furnaces and selling car radios.

Tokyo Electron, known as TEL, today makes equipment for chemical vapor deposition, photoresist coatings, plasma etch, wet surface prep, metrology and cluster ion beam and doping for thin films.
