popularity

Description

The Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF) is the optical networking industry’s non-profit forum for creating interoperability standards for electrical, optical, and control with the goal to promote worldwide compatibility of optical internetworking products. The forum consists of over 150 network operators, system vendors, component vendors, and test equipment vendors. OIF says it is the industry group uniting representatives of the data and optical worlds.

Some of the implementation agreements that OIF works on pertain to co-packaged optics and other optical networking agreements such as 400ZR.

The OIF’s current work can be found here with an infographic here.

The OIF says it supports and extends the work of national and international standards bodies. The forum has relationships with Consortium for On-Board Optics (COBO), Ethernet Alliance (EA), ETSI NFV, IEEE 802.1 and 802.3, Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), International Committee for Information technology Standards (INCITS T11), International Telecommunications Union – ITU-T Study Groups 13 and 15, Open Networking Foundation (ONF), International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC TC86/SC86B), InfiniBand (IBTA), International Photonics & Electronics Committee (IPEC), Storage Networking Industry Association Small Form Factor Committee (SNIA SFF).
