He co-founded CCT in 1989 with John Cooper after leaving Mentor Graphics Corporation where he worked on the router in the printed circuit board (PCB) division. He served as its Executive Vice President of Product Development. Prior to Mentor Graphics, Chyan was with Xerox in the PCB CAD group.
Chyan received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from National Taiwan University in 1975 and a Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of Southern California in 1979.
In 1999 Chyan was awarded the Gene Marsh Award for Technical Innovation.
