There is some disagreement as to the origin of the SystemC language. It appears as if there were several similar systems developed around the same time, and certain companies may have cross pollinated those efforts. Funding members of the organization included ARM, CoWare (purchased by Synopsys), CynApps (later to become Forte which was acquired by Cadence) and Synopsys. OSCI merged with Accellera in 2011 to become Accellera Systems Initiative.
