Walden (Wally) Rhines is chairman and CEO of Mentor Graphics, the third largest EDA vendor in the world.
Prior to joining Mentor, Rhines was executive vice president of Texas Instruments’ Semiconductor Group. He manages TI’s push into DSPs and supervised development of the first TI speech synthesis devices. He is co-inventor of the GaN blue-violet LED. He also was president of TI’s Data Systems Group.

Rhines received his BS degree in metallurgical engineering from the University of Michigan, and and MS and Ph.D. in materials science and engineering from Stanford University. He also holds an MBA from Southern Methodist University.

He serve five terms as chairman of the EDA Consortium and is co-vice chairman.
