Created to help smaller, independent EDA companies have a voice over the larger and more dominant companies. Initially Daisy, Mentor and Valid, then later Cadence and Synopsys. However, without assistance from the larger companies, it was getting nowhere. Joe Costello, CEO of Cadence, help to make it a reality. It is known today as EDAC.
