Dr. Alberto Sangiovanni-Vincentelli has been instrumental to the creation of several EDA companies including Cadence and Synopsys and is the chief technology adviser to Cadence.

Alberto Sangiovanni Vincentelli holds the Edgar L. and Harold H. Buttner Chair of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at the University of California at Berkeley has been a Professor of electrical engineering and computer sciences at the UC Berkeley since 1976.

Amongst Sangiovanni-Vincentelli many honors and awards, he was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 1998, received the Kaufman Award from the Electronic Design Automation Consortium in 2001, the IEEE/RSE Wolfson James Clerk Maxwell Medal in 2008, the ACM/IEEE A. Richard Newton Technical Impact Award in Electronic Design Automation in 2009 and the EDAA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012.

He received an electrical engineering and computer science degree (“Dottore in Ingegneria”) summa cum laude from the Politecnico di Milano, Italy in 1971.
