Description

Rambus provides PHY and controller IP for various types of memory memory and SerDes. Through its Cryptography Research division, the company provides various hardware security products including Root of Trust and side-channel attack protection.

Acquisitions

December 2019: Acquired the silicon IP, secure protocols and provisioning business from Verimatrix, formerly Inside Secure, for $45 million at closing, and up to an additional $20 million dependent on revenue targets.

October 2019: Sold the Payments and Ticketing businesses (formerly Bell ID and Ecebs) to Visa.

August 2019: Acquired Northwest Logic, a supplier of memory, PCIe and MIPI digital controllers.

January 2019: Acquired the memory technology assets of Diablo Technologies.

August 2016: Acquired the assets of Semtech’s Snowbush IP, a provider of high-performance serial link solutions, for $32 million.

August 2016: Acquired all assets of Inphi Memory Interconnect Business, including product inventory, customer contracts, supply chain agreements, and intellectual property, for $90 million in cash.

January 2016: Acquired Smart Card Software Ltd, which included Bell Identification (Bell ID) and Ecebs, for £64.7 million (~$93 million) in cash. Bell ID was a mobile payment platform developer; Ecebs supplied smart ticketing systems to the UK transport markets.

February 2012: Acquired Unity Semiconductor, a non-volatile memory technology, for $35 million in cash.

June 2011: Acquired Cryptography Research, Inc., a maker of semiconductor security solutions including differential power analysis (DPA) countermeasures, for $342.5 million comprised of $167.5 million in cash, approximately 6.4 million shares, and $50 million payable to CRI employees.

January 2011: Acquired the lighting and display portfolio of patents and technology from Imagine Designs, including general lighting, LCD backlighting, and MEMS displays.

May 2010: Acquired a portion of Uni-Pixel’s IP portfolio relating to dynamic backlighting, field sequential color displays, and Time Multiplexed Optical Shutter display technology for $2.25 million.

December 2009: Acquired technology and a portfolio of lighting and optoelectronics patents (including MicroLens light distribution technology) from Global Lighting Technologies Inc. (GLT) for $26 million.

April 2009: Acquired a number of patents from Inapac Technology for increasing assembly yield in system-in-package (SiP) implementations.
