STMicroelectronics is a French-Italian multinational company with headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. It is Europe’s largest chipmaker.
The company was founded in 1987 and focuses in sensors, power, automotive and embedded processing. It originally was called SGS-Thomson Microelectronics, following a merger of Italy’s SGS Microelettronica and France’s Thomson Semiconducteur. It was renamed STMicroelectronics in May 1988, and has been public since 1994.
