A workflow that leverages the Ansys Lumerical, Cadence, and GlobalFoundries (GF) Fotonix process design kit for electronic-photonic co-design.
Massive growth in research, development, and applications of CMOS-compatible integrated photonics in recent years, along with its expected potential for the years to come, has sparked an ever-increasing demand from designers for seamless and all-inclusive design automation solutions that can enable electronic-photonic co-design while being accurate and easy to use. Here, we demonstrate an end-toend design and simulation of a PAM-4 optical transceiver system, including device layout and simulation, compact model generation, and electronic-photonic circuit design and simulation. The workflow leverages the synergy between Ansys Lumerical, Cadence, and GlobalFoundries (GF) Fotonix™ process design kit (PDK), benefiting from the accuracy of hardware-correlated, process-enabled component design and electronic-photonic compact model integration while maintaining an accurate representation for both electrical and optical signals simultaneously.
