EDA, IP Show Surprising Strength

EDA and IP revenue surged 12.6% in Q2 to $2.78 billion, up from $2.47 billion in the same period in 2019, according to a just-released report. That growth occurred in all regions, as well. What's surprising about the report is just how strong sales were in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. "Revenue was up strongly from Q1, and there was enormous growth," said Wally Rhines, executive spo... » read more

Manufacturing Speed And Agility Enabled By Turnkey HPC Solutions

Manufacturers face growing competition as new players enter the global market all the time. To stay ahead of rivals, they increasingly rely on digital modeling and simulation tools for product design, analysis and testing with the help of HPC and CAE. So how is HPC enabling innovation for manufacturers from small to large? This white paper covers: Using HPC to accelerate product develo... » read more

The Week In Review: Design

Tools Mentor, a Siemens business, filled in the last of the hardware configurations for its Veloce Strato emulation family, creating a full upgrade path. Users can initially purchase only the hardware that they need (StratoTiL) and if later they require more capacity (StratoTi) or the ability to handle larger designs (StratoT), they can incrementally add the necessary hardware to their existin... » read more

CAE Turns To HPC

How ANSYS is addressing the value of HPC technology within the CAE market, the main challenges to the use or uptake of HPC resources, and the future for HPC in CAE. The paper also briefly describes ANSYS Discovery Live — a new design tool that takes advantage of thousands of cores available in a GPU to produce instantaneous simulation results with every interactive change to the model. Discov... » read more

Frontloading CFD-Required Technologies

Today, manufacturing product design cycles need to get shorter and shorter as either new or increased numbers of products get to the market faster. In the automotive industry for example, with either facelifts to existing car models, or the next generation of the model appearing almost every 3-4 years, and an increasing number of new models appearing on the market, the demand on engineering des... » read more

EDA, IP Up 7%

EDA and IP growth increased to $2.094 billion in Q3, a 7% gain over the $1.958 billion reported for the same period in 2015, according to just released data from the Electronic System Design Alliance Market Statistics Service. All geographic regions reported growth last quarter. So did computer-aided engineering, the largest single category, which grew 5.0% to $666.7 million in Q3, up from $... » read more

EDA, IP Sales Up

EDA and IP revenue increased 4.5% in Q1, a significant increase given the semiconductor industry was flat last year and that EDA sales dropped 1.9% in Q4 of 2015. Total sales were $1.962 billion, up from $1.877 in Q1 of 2015. The big surprise, though, was Japan, which grew 12%. Japan's semiconductor business has been in a deep slump for several years. "It's been a long time since we've se... » read more

EDA Sales Down Slightly

EDA sales dropped 1.9% in Q4 of 2015, following a spectacular run of 23 consecutive quarters of solid growth. For the year, the EDA and IP industry posted 5% growth. It's hard to read too much into a single quarter, especially when growth for the full year was up 5%, according to numbers released by the EDA Consortium's Market Statistics Service. Computer-aided engineering (CAE), the largest... » read more

EDA, IP Numbers Up

EDA and IP numbers increased another 8.5% in Q2, with all regions but Japan showing positive growth. Total revenue was $1.91 billion for the quarter, up from $1.76 billion in Q2 of 2014. The largest category, computer-aided engineering, was $657.2 million for the quarter, up 9.6% compared with the same period last year. IC physical design was $379.2 million, up 6% year over year, and IP was ... » read more

EDA Sales Strong Again

EDA and IP sales were robust again in Q1, up 7.5% to $1.877 billion compared with $1.746 billion in the same period in 2014, according to the EDA Consortium. On the upside, IP revenue rose 19.3% to $618.1 million; services revenue increased 6.8% to $104.4 million; and PCB and multi-chip module revenue increased 1.1% to $161.5 million. On the downside, CAE—the largest single category—... » read more
