Making BaZrS3 Chalcogenide Perovskite Thin Films by Molecular Beam Epitaxy

Abstract: We demonstrate the making of BaZrS3 thin films by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE). BaZrS3 forms in the orthorhombic distorted-perovskite structure with corner-sharing ZrS6 octahedra. The single-step MBE process results in films smooth on the atomic scale, with near-perfect BaZrS3 stoichiometry and an atomically-sharp interface with the LaAlO3 substrate. The films grow epitaxially via tw... » read more

Understand MOSFET Switch Behavior Via An LED Driver Simulation

Automotive incandescent bulbs have largely given way to more efficient, reliable, stylish, and even safer light emitting diodes (LEDs). LEDs turn on in a fraction of the time and are especially useful in brake lamps, where fractions of a second matter. The challenge in designing an automotive LED lamp is in satisfying government requirements for light output while also being cost effective. Ano... » read more

How Power, Lighting, And EVS Improve Rotorcraft Safety And Performance

With rotorcraft serving rugged duty across a wide spectrum of mission-critical industries including firefighting, police work, emergency medical services (EMS), oil and gas transport, and search and rescue (SAR), integrating new technologies optimizes the safety and operational performance of the vehicle. Whether line-fit or retrofit, rotorcraft that operate in rugged, degraded environments dep... » read more

OLEDs Shine In Phones, TVs, Lights

OLEDs are coming—everywhere. While the new iPhone 7 models do not have organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays, those handsets are likely to be the last Apple will offer before it makes the smartphone transition to OLED displays next year. The Apple Watch, however, does have a flexible OLED display with a sapphire crystal cover or an Ion-X glass cover, and the Apple Watch Series 2 ... » read more

Are LEDs Cool?

The high-brightness LED market is moving in several directions at once. On one front, LEDs are moving into automotive and solid-state lighting. Within solid-state lighting, there are different markets, such as industrial and residential. And in the supply chain, there are LED chips, equipment and fabs. And then, there is intelligent lighting, where the smartphone or tablet controls the lig... » read more
