Koomey’s Law states that the energy efficiency of computers doubles roughly every 18 months, vs. Moore’s law, which states that processing power doubles every 18 to 24 months.

The observation was put forth by Jonathan Koomey, based upon a trend that has been underway since the 1950s. Koomey is a consulting professor at Stanford.
