popularity

Description

Local Interconnect Network (LIN) is an automotive bus developed by a consortium of European automakers, including BMW, Volkswagen, Audi, Volvo, and Mercedes-Benz, one semiconductor supplier – Motorola and one tool supplier VCT. The first version was released in 2002.

LIN is a broadcast serial network with one master and up to 16 slaves. It was not intended as a replacement to CAN, instead focusing on being a low cost bus intended for mechatronic nodes in distributed automotive applications. It is a single wire bus based on ISO 9141 (K-line). Speeds are limited to 20kbit/s for EMI reasons.
