SystemC-AMS

Analog and mixed-signal extensions to SystemC
popularity

Description

The SystemC-AMS study group was formed in 2002 to develop analog and mixed-signal extensions to SystemC. In 2006, a SystemC-AMS working group was created within OSCI, and now within the Accellera Systems Initiative.

A proof of concept was released in 2013, created by Fraunhofer IIS/EAS and later that year the SystemC AMS 2.0 Standard for Mixed-Signal Design of Electronic Systems was released. They are currently working on an implementation of the 2.0 version.

The integration of the analog and digital parts is based on the notion of dynamic timed dataflow. While timed dataflow utilizes a fixed time step, this is insufficient for many analog systems where periods and frequencies can change dynamically.

In 2014, an IEEE project (IEEE 1666.1) to create the SystemC Analog/Mixed-Signal (AMS) extensions Language Reference Manual was started.
