Wireless

A way of moving data without wires.
popularity

Description

Wireless dates back into the 1880s with the invention of the telephone, early work in radio signals, and magnetic induction, but work has continued and even accelerated since the Millennium.
The 21st century has already seen some, and will see many more evolutions in wireless technology. In fact developments, refinement, paradigm shifts, and deployment of the plethora of wireless technologies will be one of the fastest growing industries. Wireless will be the most prolific of all interconnect platforms.

From the next generation of LEO satellites to micro-miniature radios attached to motes and Internet dust, wireless technologies will breech new frontiers.

On the horizon is the mainstreaming of existing wireless technologies such as ZigBee, NFC, Wi-Fi, RFID, and Bluetooth. New drivers, such as ultra-low power requirements will spawn derivatives of existing technologies; Bluetooth Smart, Wi-Fi roaming, 6LoWPAN, Li-FI, and DIDO, for example. And these are just the unlicensed technologies. Change are coming about in licensed wireless technologies as well.

These, in turn, which will enable new platforms such as MBAN, wearables, IoE, V2V/I/G, WiGig, IBeacon, Intelligent Proximity, and many more, at frequencies into the hundreds of gigahertz. Such new wireless territory will require huge paradigm shifts in propagation metrics and hardware/software design. There will be new networks, HetNets, SDN and NFV, all will require a realignment of the conventional wireless design methodology.

Not being on the edge of wireless development will be akin to not being on the edge of computers many years ago. Wireless illiteracy is no longer an option, as wireless will be part of virtually everything and anything, from now on.
